Method of desalination of brackish water
1. Distillation method
Distillation is the process of heating brackish or sea water to boil and evaporate, and then condensing the steam into fresh water. Distillation is the earliest method of brackish water desalination. Its main advantages are simple structure, easy operation and good quality of fresh water. There are many kinds of distillation methods, such as multi-effect evaporation, multi-stage flash distillation, pressure steam distillation, membrane distillation and so on.
2, Electrodialysis method
Electrodialysis method uses ion exchange membrane to separate the negative and cation in salt water under the action of electric field, so as to reduce the salt concentration in the fresh water chamber and obtain a membrane separation technology of fresh water. The electrodialysis device uses ion directional migration under the action of electric field to achieve the purpose of salt removal by selecting a permeable ion exchange membrane. Electrodialysis brackish water desalination technology has been relatively mature, with the main advantages of simple process, high salt removal rate, low water production cost, convenient operation, no pollution to the environment, but there are some shortcomings such as strict requirements for water quality and pretreatment of raw water. In the 1950s, the United States and the United Kingdom began to use this method for brackish water desalination, and China used this method for brackish water desalination, industrial pure water and ultra-pure water manufacturing in the 1980s.
3, Reverse osmosis method
Reverse osmosis is to add a higher pressure than natural osmosis on one side of the concentrated solution, reverse the direction of natural osmosis, and press the ions in the solution to the other side of the semi-permeable membrane, which is the opposite of the normal osmosis process in nature, so it is called "reverse osmosis", this device is called reverse osmosis device. Reverse osmosis brackish water desalination method can remove more than 90% of dissolved salts and more than 99% of colloidal microorganisms and organic matter from water. Compared with other water treatment methods, it has the advantages of no phase change, normal temperature operation, simple equipment, high efficiency, less footprint, convenient operation, less energy consumption, wide range of adaptation, high degree of automation and good effluent quality.
